MSIB Sector Charleston: Port Condition Whiskey

Monday, September 02, 2019 2:34 PM | Anna Thies (Administrator)

Effective 0000, 1 Sep 2019, the Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) Charleston is setting Port Condition Whiskey due to the expected arrival of tropical storm force winds of 39 mph from Hurricane Dorian within 72 hours. While the Port of Charleston has increased its readiness for heavy weather, it is currently open to all commercial traffic and all cargo operations may continue. We will continue to evaluate updated weather models and balance the risk to the Port with the need to move commerce and potentially support impacted areas of the Southeast.

All oceangoing commercial vessels and oceangoing barges greater than 500 gross tons must plan to depart the port 24 hours prior to the arrival of tropical storm force winds or be specifically authorized to remain in port by the COTP. Vessels intending to remain in port must immediately contact Coast Guard Sector Charleston.
